Our People

Russell Cornell is a founding partner of Cornell Law Group PLC, and serves as the leader of the firm's tax practice.  One of Russell's primary roles within the firm is to guide the firm's estate planning clients through the tax issues that commonly arise.

In the past, Russell frequently observed tax advisors pushing complicated strategies on clients, without even taking the time to help the client understand the issues involved or the solutions proposed.  Having previously served as a global tax advisor to several multi-national companies, Russell offers his clients cutting edge, sophisticated tax advice.  At the same time, Russell takes pride in counseling his clients, helping them to truly understand the issues raised and the solutions he proposes.  Russell strongly believes in finding the most straightforward way to address a client's needs, rather than the method that may generate the highest fee.

Russell advises the firms clients on a wide range of tax and business issues, including estate and gift tax, federal income tax, and state and local tax issues.  Russell's clients include families seeking to preserve and pass on their wealth, start-up businesses trying to make sense of the options and position themselves for growth, as well as established businesses seeking to increase after-tax cash flows to achieve a competitive advantage.

Russell received his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law, summa cum laude, and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

Julie Cornell co-founded Cornell Law Group with a particular purpose in mind – to assist growing families in protecting their children, preserving their assets, and planning for the future.  Julie seeks to establish ongoing relationships with her clients that enables her to grow with them in the future.

Julie believes that estate planning is more than meeting with a lawyer for a couple of hours in order to sign some form documents that you don’t understand.  It is all about protecting what is most important to you and passing on your legacy.  Julie listens to each client and helps identify the client’s goals, needs, and concerns.  She then creates a plan that ensures the safety and well-being of her clients and their children.  Julie’s clients find peace of mind knowing that their plan will actually work when it needs to come into action.

A Knoxville, TN native, Julie spent much of the last ten years traveling and exploring new places.  She believes that her diverse experiences – from working for a judge in Uganda, to receiving a certificate from the nation’s top dispute resolution program, to working for a family law firm in Beverly Hills – have made her the well rounded attorney that she is today.  She attended Pepperdine University School of Law in beautiful Malibu, CA.  Julie and her husband love experiencing all the great restaurants and music that Nashville has to offer.  They also enjoy exploring and connecting with people in their East Nashville community.  Julie is an active member of the Estate Planning Council of Middle Tennessee, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Nashville Bar Association.
